Bat Houses

Here are some bat houses I have found in the woods. The one above I saw today and the one below I saw on the Katy Trail last September.

Shagbark hickory also provides shelter for bats. They get up under the shag bark.

In the middle of this photo is a tree that is called a Wolf tree. This is a tree that branches out and occupies more area than normal. This tree now is being crowded by other trees. In the past it was probably in the open.

White Oak by Pond

I came across this White oak yesterday. I measured it because of the large diameter. Notice the broken top.

The tree is located to the right and upper end of the lake. Even though this tree has 75 to 100 years on the rest of the trees it is not any taller.

Height 76.7'
Circumference 172"
Dia 54.7"
Canopy 76' & 81'
Total Points 268.3
