River Birch

Here is a close up of a young River birch bark. The small horizontal lines are lenticles. They allow gas exchange in the tree.

  1. I don't know why, but I have been captivated by bark for most of my life. My parents used to think me weird for photographing it so often. But it speaks to me of wisdom and experience. Love your photo!

  2. Thanks, I enjoy the different types of bark God has created. It is also interesting to notice young bark change as the tree gets older.
